Welcome to the first Creative Gardens Ideas monthly guide to gardening. Each month we will be highlighting the most important jobs to do in your garden and how by using the Creative Garden Ideas site we can help you make keeping your garden looking good easier and cheaper! Remember, we delivery to your door so no added transport or fuel costs to worry about and no carrying heavy and cumbersome items from the garden centre!
July is mainly a time when you can enjoy your garden, rather than doing a lot of physical work in it, as most things are sown and already planted and the whole emphasis this month is more on weeding and watering regularly especially as the weather is hot……...we hope!
Lawns will need some attention with regular mowing and edging needed as well as some feeding to protect it against the heat and over use by the children! Look out for our range lawn care products including Pro-Grow Peat Free Lawn Conditioner, Westland’s Aftercut and, whilst stocks last, a special price offer on Westland’s Lawn Seed Shakers.
Mulching the soil between both new and established plants is another important job this month. This will not only look attractive, setting off the surrounding plants, but will help reduce weed growth and conserve soil moisture. Look out for our range of Garden Care Products including Eco-Friendly - FSC and Peat Free products that not only do your garden good but also help the environment at the same time. And always remember that by using our free delivery service there’s no more carrying heavy bags of mulches and composts to and from your car!
With the warmer weather arriving and the children beginning their long summer holidays the problem of keeping them amused is one faced by families across the country – to help we have introduced a number of new and innovative Play Equipment, including Trampolines, Sandpits and a range of Activity Centres designed especially for younger children to play and have fun safely in the garden. For the more adventurous there’s even a highly competitively priced Swimming Pool, which includes a solar water heater, pump, sand filter and a thermal cover!
July is also the start of the BBQ season – please remember to order early, as our range of BBQs, and Charcoals are very
popular. This year we have added a number of new products to this range including Barrel and Kettle BBQ’s as well as a range of larger stone BBQs. We also stock a range of gas fired BBQs as well.
Charcoal comes in a wide variety of bag sizes for both Supagrill Lumpwood and Briquette charcoal as well as Supagrill Firelighters, Quickfire Smokeless Fuel and Real Wood Logs.
Also look out for our range of Patio Heaters, Firepits and Braziers, ideal for prolonging the long summer evenings ahead keeping you warm well into the night! These are again proving very popular so be sure to place your order sooner rather than later. A wide range of fuel to keep them burning is of course, from the country’s leading solid fuel supplier, readily available!
Garden Furniture and Garden Lighting are also popular at this time of the year and, again, we have an extensive range of tables, chairs and seating as well as garden lighting including solar and gas powered lights.
July, in the veggie patch, is an abundant month with plenty of spinach, the last of the peas, young carrots, new potatoes, broad beans and the first of the runner bean crop. However, to take advantage of these delights there is also some hard work to do. If the weather is kind make sure you water well and regularly particularly runner, dwarf and broad bean crops. Sweetcorn will also need watering as the pods begin to swell and, as always, keep on top of weeding your patch!
Now is also a good time to ensure that your plants, vegetables and shrubs are all receiving their fair share of nutrients, especially when the warmer weather will be drying out the soil at an alarming rate…….. look out for Westland’s Organic Chicken Manure Pellets on our Fertilisers page. These will feed and enrich your plants effectively and organically, providing all the natural nutrients needed for plants to stay healthy and safe. The pellets are ideal for fruit and vegetables.
Finally, July is also a great month to get out and about to look at other gardens or to visit some of the many Flower Shows that take place across the UK during this month. Especially worth a trip are the two RHS Shows at Hampton Court, July 8th-13th and Tatton Park, July 23rd- 27th.
Happy Gardening!
